Let’s face it, bikes can’t take care of themselves. So sooner or later it’s important to learn how to wrench your bike, not just drive it to your local bike shop. From reusable gloves to a complete starter tool kit, these are the gifts that will make sure your friends’ and family’s bikes stay on the road where they belong.
Finish Line Mechanic Grip Gloves – $4.99
No one wants dirty hands. But disposable latex gloves can be a pain to put on and clutter the landfill. Finish Line’s Mechanic Grip Gloves are made with heavy-duty polyurethane coating, sealing out grease, oil, and grime. The textured surface on palm provides enhanced grip while the breathable upper fabric keeps hands cool.
Park Tool BO-2 Bottle Opener – $6.95
Because you can’t work on your bike without a cold one.
Finish Line Absorb-It Mats – $13.99 – $29.99
Tired of sweat and grease getting all over the pain cave and shop floor? Designed with special absorption fiber technology, the Absorb-It Mat absorbs and traps chain lubricants, cleaners, degreasers, brake fluid and hydraulic oils. The Absorb-It Mat comes in two different sizes: 48″ X 18″ and 60″ X 36. The 48″ x 18″ will absorb and trap up to 1 liter of fluids. The larger 60″ x 36″ will absorb and trap up to 2.5 liters of fluid. Both mats can be easily cut with a scissor to fit in custom areas.
Park Tool ATD-1 Adjustable Torque Driver – $72.95
All too often new mechanics break carbon parts by over torqueing the bolts. The ATD-1 is an easy-to-use torque driver that quickly lets you dial it in for the perfect amount of torque. The ATD-1 is adjustable to 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5 or 6 Nm and features a ¼ inch hex drive. Inside the handle are 3, 4, 5mm and T25 bits.
Silca Hiro Side-Lever Locking Chuck – $110
The Silca Hiro is our go-to pump head in almost all conditions. And when it comes to pumping disc wheels, it is simply impossible to beat. It’s easy to use and fits in the tightest of spaces. We actually have three in the office, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see us pick up a fourth in 2017. Yes, it really is that good.
Silca HX-One- $125
If there is one tool in the AeroGeeks HQ we wouldn’t give up it has to be our HX-One. Not only are they good durable tools that, with their red polymer coating, never slip even under the sweatiest of conditions. What’s more, they look fantastic and tend to spend most days in our pain cave for micro adjustments. Good tools are hard to find, but tools like the HX-One are impossible to give up.
