Any long time reader of AeroGeeks knows we are fans of SILCA products – we won’t even try to deny it. They make some of the most gorgeous products in the industry (and unfortunately at a price to match). And because of their artist type devotion, we never expect to see more than one if not two new products at Interbike. So when Josh and company showed up with an entire table worth, we were more than a bit surprised. And it turns out that was the point.
The Italian Army Knife
Lets start with something some may find hard to believe – SILCA can do small and inexpensive. Their new Italian Army Knives are their definition of the perfect multi-tool. Available in both a 13-tool and 9-tool version, the IAK combines fully forged mid-length tools with forged aluminum side plates and full stainless steel hardware.
The mid-length tool design is long enough to provide access to recessed fasteners, but short enough not to experience twist or damage under moderate torque as experiences on longer tools. All tools are forged rather than bent from hex stock. Mid-length tools also allowed SILCA to position the tools within the same plane, this reduces the thickness of the overall package by half.
The Tredici (Tre-dee-chee) with 13 forged and plated tools Hex 2/2.5/3/4/5/6/8 + Torx 10T/25/30 + PH2/Flat + DiscPadSpreader will ship in December for $35. The Nove (No-vay) with 9 forged and plated tools:Hex 2/3/4/5/6/8 +Torx 25 +PH2/Flat will also ship in December, with a retail price of $25.
Seat Roll Premio
Next up is a saddle bag with a BOA retention system. Yeah, we didn’t see that coming either. The foundation of the Premio Seat Roll is a waxed canvas of SILCA’s own creation. Heavyweight cotton canvas is first hot-melt waxed for water-proofing, and then computer quilted with reflective thread for improved visibility.
Seat Roll Premio attaches effortlessly to your seat rails using the Boa Closure System allowing for a lighter weight, more durable, more powerful, and more adjustable attachment to the seat rails than traditional designs. At first we thought this was complete overkill. But after playing with it twice on the show floor, we started realizing how clean and genius this was. Way easier to use (and a heck of a lot nicer) than a Velcro strap.
Seat Roll Premio has three pockets, sized to hold two CO2 cartridges with regulator, an inner-tube up to 700×45, and a multi-tool or other accessories. It will ship in November for $49. Or you can get the fully loaded version with EOLO Inflator and Tredici Multi-tool for $95 (saves $12 compared to purchasing separately).
EOLO and Phone Wallet
SILCA showed off not one, but two new wallets designed specifically to fit in your jersey pocket. The design for both of these Ultra-Premium Waxed Canvas bags began not with the items they would hold, but rather with the pocket it would fit in.
Both wallets are sized to the height and width of a standard jersey pocket. This starting point allowed our designers to maximize the available space. This strategy results in a bag sized just perfectly to fill the pocket completely without stretching the jersey fabric or affecting jersey fit, while allowing you to carry so much more than you thought possible.
Each bag is hand sewn from SILCA’s proprietary Waxed Duck Canvas with reflective quilting, premium water-resistant YKK zippers, and includes a unique, high strength 3M® reflective tab which wraps over the top of your jersey pocketattaches to the bag magnetically, adding over 1,500 square millimeters of reflective surface to any jersey you own!
The EOLO wallet has internal organizers for cash, credit card, two CO2 with EOLO, Multi-tool, Tubes, Tire Levers, Coins, and more. Shipping in November, it will retail for $39, or loaded with Tredici multi-tool and EOLO regulator for $84.
The Phone Wallet is different from other zippered phone cases in that it contains an internal dry bag. This dry bag takes what would be a Weather Resistant case and increases the phone protection level to fully waterproof. Dry bag holds phones up to iPhone 7 size (160mm x 80mm x 8mm) with thin case. The Weather-Proof compartment of the bag will hold up to iPhone 7+ with case. Like the EOLO wallet, the Phone Wallet will be available in November and will retail for $39.
SILCA T-Handle Folio Kit
The T-Handle Folio Kit starts with the T-Handle Folio Bag made from 12 oz. Waxed Duck Canvas, computer quilted with premium reflective thread in the classic SILCA diamond knurl pattern, paired with ripstop nylon and ultra-grippy Dupont Hypalon. The Premio T-Handle bag is designed for easy transport, and securely drapes over and fastens to any horizontal element such as a top-tube, bike stand, work stand, (even over a car door) to provide a protective and padded tool holder.
These Sliding T-Handles combine fully forged single piece main bodies with sliding, oversized cross members featuring end stops and a center detent to lock the handle in the T position. Italian made, the T-Handles are designed for the specific applications a mechanic can expect to deal with. The 8mm’s ball stop is measured to be just past the combination of the crank and pedal arm depth providing an optimum torqueing ability. The 10mm is designed specifically for the Campy Ultra Torque crank bolt.
The T-Handle Premio Kit includes:2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10mm Hex Sliding T-Handle Tools, T25, T30 Torx Sliding T-Handle Tools, and the T-Handle Premio Waxed Canvas Bag. It will ship in November, retailing for $185.
T-Ratchet + Ti-Torque Kit
We took a look at the T-Ratchet and Ti-Torque Kit previously – but Interbike was our first change to see it up close and in person.
Hi Guys I think your price on the wallet is wrong. I just paid $39
You are right – sorry about that! It should be listed as $39. We are updating our article now.
The Tredici ships with a torx 20, not a torx 30 – which is a common chainring bolt size. Try to find a torx 20 on any bike…
